LGBTQIA+ EXPERIENCES AROUND THE WORLD

Following the recent crackdowns on LGBTQIA+ rights around the world, XinSai is launching a worldwide campaign to share insights in being a part of the LGBTQIA+ community across different cultures.

Have you ever felt alienated from your society due to being a part of the LGBTQIA+ community?

I've lost a few (potential or existing) friendships because someone else would "out" me disrespectfully. but most of my other experience is positive and welcoming

Where do you feel most comfortable and safe?

In reality nowhere, no place feels safe for people like me because where ever I go I'm gonna find people to hate on me l, bully me, discriminate me.

What does identity mean to you?

Identity for me it's who you are, what you are, and everything that makes you, YOU!

Have you been able to find a community that you feel a sense of affiliation (belonging) to? How?

At school there is the GSA (gender sexuality alliance) where I found a lot of queer people, and I also met a lot of queer people at a camping on vacation with whom I’m still friends with. I do still feel alienation with the queer community though, because I’m also autistic and going out to gay bars is not possible for me, because there is too much loud music and bright lights. Autistic and other ND people are often not taken into consideration when creating queer spaces.
